On day one you will arrive in Trujillo (Peru), a lively city in Peru. We will pick you up from the airport and bring you to the hotel. A representative of PeruMotors will do the briefing for the upcoming tour. And he will arrange all the necessary paperwork with you.
The rest of the day is at leisure in Trujillo, a very nice colonial city with a friendly atmosphere. And right on the Pacific Ocean is your hotel to see the locals coming back from fishing with their boats made from reet: ‘Los Caballitos de Totora’.
First part will be south on the PanAmerican Highway to Chimbote. From there the road is getting smaller, less traffic ad very interesting. After a while, you will hit 54 tunnels and ride next to a narrow canyon, called Canyon del Pato. This is a suburb ride up the mountain until you reach Caraz, a small town in the high Andes.
It is not so far to Huaraz, but you can choose a spectacular ride into the Andes where you hit easily, and quickly passes over 4.700 meter (16.000 feet), with turquoise blue lakes, world highest tunnel, and about 1000+ curves with views of the snowcapped mountains. Here is also Peru highest mountain, the Huascarán with a top over 6.800 meter (20,500 feet).
Again crossing the mighty Andes, this time direction east with great views of the Huascarán. Most of the ride will have limited traffic until we end up in busy city of Huánuco.
After some miles we climb and hit the Altiplano for some stretches. You can’t believe after 4 days of riding you don’t have any twisties for maybe 30km or so. Between this stretch, one of the highest cities in the world shows up, Cerro de Pasco with right in the middle of this city a huge open mine pit. It’s unbelievable how this city is designed and now a days has huge environment and medical problems.
From farm lands to high altitude mountain cliffs. A great day ride with colorful dressed locals whom might never seen a Gringo.
An ever-changing scenery on well-maintained curvy and windy roads. We end up in the big city of Ayacucho, with here beautiful main Square. Time for a cold beer and watch the locals go by.
A long ride through the heart of the Andes. Mostly paved, but there could be also some unpaved stretches, with high mountains and deep ravines. This is what motorcycling is about!
The road is not even straight for one mile. Crossing the Andes again on curvy roads. Via Urubamba we enter “The Sacred Valley of the Inka’s”. The day ends in a nice hotel in Ollantaytambo, famous for its massive Inca fortress.
The absolute highlight of this tour: Machu Picchu.
There is still no road to this magical place. So, early in the morning you go by train to the little town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). From there it is half an hour by bus to the entrance of the citadel. After your visit to the ruins you go back to Ollantaytambo by train.
There is so much more Inca culture to discover in the region of Cusco. So, on the bikes again to the ancient capital of the Inca empire: Cusco. Along the road you can visit some more Inca sites.
Today`s ride is short when you do the direct route, but you can also go to Pisaq for the ruins, Sacred Valley or the market in Pisaq. Having lunch here on he main Square is great. From Pisaq it is about 3 hours to Sicuani.
2 Options to get to the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest on earth. The shortest will have around 70 km gravel, or you take the longer full pavement ride. Both rides are spectacular and todays ride is mostly above the 4.700 meters (15,500 feet). After check-in the hotel, it is time to go for a dip in one of many natural hot springs in Chivay.
An early ‘rise & shine’, because this time you will visit ‘Cruz del Condor’ in the middle of the Colca Canyon. This is the best place to see the Andean Condor in his natural habitat. From there you return to Chivay for lunch. The last kilometers you pass the El Misti and Chachani volcanoes, before you arrive back in Arequipa, our hometown. In the evening you can enjoy a cold beer and an alpaca-steak in one of the many restaurants and bars in the centre of Arequipa.
Today we will bring you to the airport for your flight back home.
