Kitty

Group Wallet:

To avoid long waits during stops with paying all individually for fuel, or just a cup of coffee, maybe some lunches and entrance fees, we install a group wallet ('Kitty') for these kind of costs. We'd like to start with first a deposit of US$ 200.00 or S/ 775,00 (Peruvian Sol) p.p.
This amount will be collected by the tour guide during the briefing and will be recorded with the expenses. When the kitty is empty, the guide will let you know if a new contribution is needed.

Participation in the kitty is mandatory, and please: CASH ONLY!
(Euros is possible too, with the normal exchange rate).

Damage Reduction Insurance (in short !)

Personal injury and death:
All our motorcycles are insured according to the minimum requirements of the Peruvian authorities (SOAT). This means that the rider, his passenger AND third parties are limited (!) covered for medical costs.
Nevertheless, we strongly advise our guests to get a health insurance with maximum coverage in Peru, for the length of this tour, because you don’t want to depend on the Peruvian SOAT-insurance.

Damage to the rental motorcycle and third party property damage:
All our motorcycles are standard NOT INSURED for damage to the rental motorcycle AND for property damage to third parties. The optional ‘Damage Reduction Insurance’ covers this kind of damage, with an excess/deductible of max. US$ 700.00, which is also the amount of the “Security Deposit” (cash or major credit card: Visa, MasterCard, Amex or Diners Club), and your maximum risk.

For this tour the insurance premium is US$ 240.00 per motorcycle.

Without this insurance the rider/renter of the motorcycle is fully liable for all costs of damage to the rental motorcycle and third party property. In this case the “Security Deposit” is US$ 2,500.00 (cash or major credit card), but your maximum risk is NOT LIMITED to this amount !

Day 1 : Arrival in Arequipa (Peru)

You will arrive in Arequipa (Peru) on day one, the lively city in southern Peru.
We will pick you up from the airport and bring you to the hotel. Your tour guide will do the briefing for the whole group about the upcoming tour. And he will arrange the necessary paperwork and the “Safety Deposit” for the motorcycle with you. The rest of the day is at leisure.

  • Altitude: 2.300 meters (7,500 feet)

Day 2: Arequipa - Puno

It is finally time to start the engines. We start in the early morning, with a good excellent first riding day. To get out of the city is our first challenge. Crossing the mighty Andes form west to east. We end up on the shores of Lake Titicaca, in the city of Puno. When we arrive in the hotel in the heart of the city, we go to the harbor for the boat excursion to the ‘Floating islands of the Uros people’.

  • Distance: 300 km. (180 mi.) by motorcycle
  • Altitude: From 2.300 meters (7,500 feet) to 3.800 meters (12,500 ft)
  • Road Surface: All pavement

Day 3: Puno - Mazuko

The longest riding day on this tour. Just south of Puno we’ll have to cross ‘little New Delhi’-city: Juliaca. An experience on its own. Then over the Altiplano to Macusani. We follow the ‘InterOceanic Highway’ downhill on the east slopes of the Andes. From 4.840 to 350 meters in about 170 km. That’s NOT a straight road ! We end up in the little tropical town of Mazuko, where we stay in a basic family hotel.

  • Distance: 445 km. (270 mi.) by motorcycle
  • Altitude: From 3.800 meters (12,500 feet) to 350 meters (1,150 feet)
  • Road Surface: All pavement

Day 4 & 5: Mazuko - Cusco

What comes down, must go up again. We’ll have to climb the mighty Andes again. In about 150 km we climb from 350 to 4,700 meters. That’s NOT a straight road ! The views are just spectacular. After lunch we enter the ancient capital of the Inca empire: Cusco.
Day 5 is the resting day in Cusco. So, no motorcycles today. But that doesn’t mean there is nothing to do. In the morning your tour guide will organize the “World famous walking city tour in Cusco, powered by PeruMotors (free of charge)”. In about 2,5 hours you will see the beautiful sites of Cusco. The afternoon is for exploring Cusco on your own, or visit some Inca ruins outside of Cusco, or just for relaxing at the hotel.

  • Distance: 315 km. (190 mi.) by motorcycle
  • Altitude: From 350 meters (1,150 feet), via 4.500 meters (14,800 feet) to 3.400 meters (11,000 feet)
  • Road Surface: All pavement

Day 6: Cusco - Ollantaytambo

A relative short ride to the “Sacred Valley of the Incas”. Here we can visit the Salinas. Lunch will be in Urubamba. We arrive early in the afternoon in the authentic Inca town of Ollantaytambo, where you can visit the most impressive Inca fortress. This is the ONLY place where the Incas won a battle in the war against the Spaniards.

  • Distance: 100 km. (60 mi.) by motorcycle
  • Altitude: From 3.400 meters (11,000 feet) to 2.800 meters (9,200 feet)
  • Road Surface: Mainly pavement

Day 7: Machu PIcchu

THE absolute touristic highlight of South America: Machu Picchu. And, of course, one of the highlights of this tour. Because there is (still) no existing road to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), we go by train. Early in the morning the train will bring us, along the Urubamba river, in about 2 hours to Aguas Calientes. Then in about half an hour by bus to the entrance. In the afternoon you’ll return to Ollantaytambo by train.

  • Distance: 45 km. (28 mi.) by Train & Bus
  • Altitude: From 2.800 meters (9,200 feet) to 2.300 meters (7,500 feet), and back

Day 8: Ollantaytambo - Chalhuanca

After all about the Incas in the past days, we are on the road again. On our way to the coast, we’ll have to cross the Andes again. This time eastwards. The riding is amazing and the views are just spectacular. Somewhere halfway to Nasca we spend the night in the tourist-less town of Chalhuanca.

  • Distance: 325 km. (195 mi.) by motorcycle
  • Altitude: From 2.800 meters (9,200 feet) to 2.300 meters (7,500 feet)
  • Road Surface: All pavement

Day 9: Chalhuanca - Nasca

Continuing on the ‘Road with the 1.000 Hairpins”. There is much more Andes to ride today. Actually, more of the same of yesterday. Not boring at all ! The last 90 km we dive from high altitude to 630 meters, That’s NOT a straight road ! We end up in a nice hotel with a pool in Nasca, on a comfortable altitude.

  • Distance: 345 km. (210 mi.) by motorcycle
  • Altitude: From 2.800 meters (9,200 feet) to 630 meters (2,100 feet)
  • Road Surface: All pavement

Day 10: Nasca - Chala

In the morning the possibility to fly over the world famous pampa with the Nasca lines, because they are only visible from the air. After lunch we ride through the desert to the coast. We stay in a hotel on the beach at a stunning location.

  • Distance: 160 km. (100 mi.) by motorcycle
  • Altitude: From 650 meters (2,135 feet) to sea level
  • Road Surface: All pavement

Day 11: Chala - Aplao

Today we follow the coast south bound on the PanAmerican Highway. After lunch we go land inwards to a quite basic hotel in the valley of Majes.

  • Distance: 335 km. (200 mi.) by motorcycle
  • Altitude: From sea level to 800 meters (2,625 feet)
  • Road Surface: All pavement

Day 12: Aplao - Cabanaconde

Maybe the most spectacular ride lies ahead of us. Again we’ll have to climb to extreme altitudes. And as an extra bonus we ride about 40 km. on a spectacular gravel road. The Ride-of-a-Lifetime ! We stop in Cabanaconde, close to the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest in the world. The hotel is a nice family type hotel.

  • Distance: 255 km. (155 mi.)
  • Altitude: From 800 meters (2,625 feet) to 3.300 meters (10,800 feet)
  • Road Surface: Mainly pavement, with 40 km. of gravel road

Day 13: Cabanaconde - Arequipa

Just about 15 km form the hotel we arrive at ‘Cruz del Condor’. Here we can see the Andean Condor in flight. No guarantees ! After seeing the largest flying birds on earth we ride to the little town Chivay for lunch. Then the last part of the tour to our hometown of Arequipa, where we will arrive in the afternoon. At night we tell our strong stories over a nice farewell-dinner in the city.

  • Distance: 220 km. (130 mi.) by motorcycle
  • Altitude: From 3,300 meters (10,800 feet) to 2.300 meters (7,500 feet)
  • Road Surface: All pavement

Day 14: Departure from Arequipa

Today we will bring you to the airport for your flight back home.

  • Altitude: 2.300 meters (7,500 feet)
