Kitty
Group wallet
To avoid long waits during stops with paying all individually for just a cup of coffee or an ice cream, we normally install a group wallet ('Kitty') for these kind of costs. This makes everybody’s life easier, but only works when everybody participates in this. We suggest to start with a deposit of NZ$ 150.00.
Damage Reduction Insurance (in short !)
Personal injury and death:
All our motorcycles in New Zealand are insured according to the minimum requirements of the local authorities. This means that third parties are covered for death and injury. The rider and his passenger are not insured for medical costs, etc.
PeruMotors strongly advise their clients to obtain a health insurance with maximum coverage in New Zealand for the length of this tour.
Damage to the rental motorcycle and third party property damage:
All our motorcycles are standard fully insured for property damage to third parties.
Damage to the rental motorcycle is insured, with an excess/deductible of NZ$ 4,500.00.
It is possible to lower your excess/deductible:
– Stage 1: Reduces the Insurance Excess to NZ$ 2,900.00, for NZ$ 19.00 per day
– Stage 2: Reduces the Insurance Excess to NZ$ 950.00, for NZ$ 35.00 per day
– Stage 3: Reduces the Insurance Excess to NZ$ 0.00, NZ$ 69.00 per day
You’ll have to guarantee the “Security Deposit” for the rental motorcycle with a major credit card.
Day 1 : Arrival in Christchurch (New Zealand)
After a very long flight to Christchurch it is good to arrive finally at the hotel. Your tour guide will do the briefing for the whole group about the upcoming tour in the afternoon. We will try to collect the motorcycles also in the afternoon.
Be sure to arrive today before 13:00 hr.
It is a good suggestion to arrive a day (or more) earlier. We experience since the corona pandemic that all (!) airlines make last-minute changes in flights, and have problems with luggage management.
An extra day gives you also the opportunity to start the riding well rested. And explore the pleasant city of Christchurch. Be prepared!
Day 2 : Christchurch - Darfield
It is finally time to start our engines. Today we maken an easy start of the tour. To get out of the city is our first challenge. We cross the peninsula. We stay there night in a small town.
- Distance: 200 km. (120 mi.)
Day 3: Darfield - Twizel
A long riding day, but enjoying the beautiful back roads of the South Island.
- Distance: 400 km. (240 mi.)
Day 4: Twizel - Dunedin
In the morning we ride to see Mount Cook. Then south bound to Dunedin, a nice town.
- Distance: 340 km. (200 mi.) by motorcycle
Day 5: Dunedin - Owaka
To Owaka
Day 6 & 7: Owaka - Te Anau
From Owaka to Te Anau. The next day we ride 120 km. to the Milford Sound for a very special boat ride on the fjord. Try to count all the waterfalls. We stay 2 nights in Te Anau.
Day 8 & 9: Te Anau - Queenstown
From Te Anau it is a great ride to the 'Adrenaline Capital of the world': Queenstown. The next day you'll have to choose from too many activities this town has to offer: Bungy jumping, target shooting, boat ride, cable cars, Skyline luge, and much, much more!
- Distance: 180 km. (110 mi.)
Day 10: Queenstown - Fox Glacier
The road brings us to the west coast of the South Island. The road takes us north bound all the way to Fox Glacier.
- Distance: 330 km. (200 mi.)
Day 11: Fox Glacier - Westport
Further north bound on our way Westport. The road is to enjoy riding a motorcycle.
- Distance: 300 km. (180 mi.)
Day 12 & 13: Westport - Kaiteriteri
A relative short ride to one of the most beautiful spots on the South Island.
The next day is to explore the Abel Tasman NP by boat and/or just walking.
Day 14: Kaiteriteri - Kaikoura
Again a beautiful ride, now east bound. The day ends in Kaikoura on a amazing spot on the coast.
- Distance: 325 km. (195 mi.)
Day 15: Kaitoura - Hanmer Springs
A relative short ride today. This is to give you the opportunity to visit the Hanmer Springs, go Jet Boating on the river or any other adrenaline adventure. The choice is yours.
- Distance: 130 km. (70 mi.)
Day 16: Hanmer Springs - Christchurch
It is already the last riding day. The tour ends in Christchurch at the rental station of the motorcycles. In the evening we will have our farewell dinner in one of the many good restaurants in the city.

Day 17: Departure from Christchurch
Today this tour finishes officially. We arrange your transfer to the airport for your flight home.
